Mr. Lim Tiat Seng 林哲成先生

Lim Tiat Seng, is a prolific Composer, Arranger and Bandmaster. He graduated from a Military Band Advance Training and Conducting Course in Belcombe Academy of Music, Melbourne, Australia in 1964 and subsequently studied under William Lovelock and Swiss Fisher. He became the Bandmaster of the People’s Association Military Band in 1965, and has been the Music Director for Cultural Show Time since 1966.
He was the Honorary Director of Music for the Police Band and People’s Defence Force from 1969 to 1972. He was then commissioned to compose and arrange the music for the dance drama” Evergreen” for the People’s Association 15 Anniversary Concert in 1975.
In 1977, he attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA where he studied Contemporary Composition with Jim Burt, Mike Gibb, Richard Allen and Barrie Nettles.
His better known compositions include “String Impromptu”, “The Spirit of Jurong Workers” “Pride of Youth Movement” and “Evergreen”.
He has led and conducted the People’s Association Four Rings Choir and won the Grand Final Championship of National Community Singing Competition in 1992.
He has assisted in putting together an orchestra for COMPASS Awards 2001 and 2002, and has helped in the arrangement for all music performances during the events.
He is a single parent of three children. He enjoys strolling along the beach. His other hobbies include Music Sequencer Programming and creating music score from computer.
